I began attending Chicago Math and Science Academy as an eighth grader in 2004. Throughout my time
at CMSA, I developed a love for learning and helping students to become well rounded individuals. This
passion was instilled in me from the teachers I had at CMSA. I graduated CMSA in 2009 and went on to
attend Illinois State University. I graduated ISU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social
Sciences/History. The very next week I started working as a paraprofessional back at my alma mater,
CMSA. The next school year I received a position at Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park as an eighth
and ninth grade Social Studies and History teacher. I am now on my second year at HSA and couldn’t
enjoy it more. My future plans are to begin obtaining my master’s degree in Educational Administration.
From there, I would like to become an administrator at a Concept School.

Charles Franklin has been working as an attorney in private practice in Illinois since 1980. For
the last five years he has operated the Franklin Law Group, a general business law and litigation
firm in Northfield, Illinois. Charles went to the University of Miami (Florida) for law school.
For college, he attended the United States Air Force Academy and graduated from the University
of Michigan. Charles was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but grew up overseas, living with his
family in Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

Dr. Edgardo Vargas is originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish. After finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the
University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Vargas moved to Chicago to study chiropractic at National University of Health Sciences. He graduated from
NUHS in 2006 and began working at a pain management clinic that provided extensive experience treating all types of injuries and acute and
chronic pain. Dr. Vargas, a board-certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, is passionate about helping people achieve better health
through nutrition. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his three sons, playing basketball, and coaching soccer.
