Alumni Spotlight
(Week of Dec 28, 2015)

Martin Enem

Martin Enem is an Alumnus of Chicago Math and Science Academy, Class of 2011. Currently, Martin is a Research and Development Chemical Engineer at Morton Salt.

Briefly, describe your career path.
After finishing high school, I went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received my B.S in Chemical Engineering. After which, I was offered a position at Morton Salt as a Research and Development Chemical Engineer.

What are you passionate about in your work/school?
I love that I get to work under Research and Development at such a large company. This enables me to work with some of the brightest people, all with a common goal of developing new products that are yet to be released on the market, while also ensuring that the existing products are made better.

Where is your career headed?
I am planning on becoming a senior R&D Engineer at Morton Salt, improving existing products at the company, while leading the forefront for new products that are yet to be released.

How has your Concept Schools experience helped shape your success?
I believe my Concept school was filled with passionate teachers that prepared me for the challenging major that I was to pursue. They gave tips of how to succeed in high school but went further and taught ways to succeed in college as well, ways that I applied to my situation and helped me. Also the teachers kept in touch with me, seeing my progress through the years. I believe this really helped me to remain focused and not lose track of my goals.

How are you making a positive impact in your community?
I try to participate in most donations around my community. You might think that what you give is little, but even the little things that you give can make a huge impact.

What is the most amazing or interesting thing that’s happened to you since graduating?
I think what was most amazing for me is being able to use all the knowledge I acquired from high school and university at my place of work. Some of the things I took for granted as mundane information are things that I have to use on a daily basis at work.

Your favorite Concept Schools memory?
I was a member of a Turkish club in high school, in which I got to try out Turkish food and learn about the culture. My friends were part of the club as well, so it was a very fun to hang out with friends while having the opportunity to try new cuisine. The teacher in charge of the program was one of my best teachers which made it more memorable.

How do you support and participate in the Concept Alumni?
I still contact old teachers at my high school and try to show up when I can. I try to talk to graduating students, telling them what to expect in college.
