Future Institute
The real test of a high school education is how it plays out afterward. CAN graduates are successful, hardworking, and are making contributions in diverse fields. Here are just a few of the many paths taken by Concept Alumni.

Alumni Spotlight
(Week of Jan 18, 2016)

Ellen Hoffman

Ellen Hoffman is an Alumna of Horizon Science Academy Toledo High School, Class of 2012.

Briefly, describe your career path.
I am currently a senior at the University of Findlay studying Public Relations. I have a part-time job at The Children's Museum of Findlay where I am an admissions and floor associate. I check people in and I clean up the front floor space to keep all our exhibits together and looking neat and tidy.

What are you passionate about in your work/school?
I am very passionate about writing and working with people to help them in finding new ways to help their businesses. I have had the honor through classes that I have taken at my university to make real PR Plans for actual businesses and help them to better promote themselves. My most recent one had to be my favorite. I work with a group for the client for The Robin's Project out of Warren, Ohio, and we were able to put together a plan that helped the client gain more volunteers and people with memories of The Robin's Theater as it was.

Where is your career headed?
As of right now my career I am still looking into where I want to go or what I want to do with my life. I am hoping though to work for a nonprofit and help them. If not I am hoping that I am just able to get a job that I enjoy and look forward to going to everyday.

How has your Concept Schools experience helped shape your success?
Concept Schools has helped shape my success in so many ways. I was very blessed when I found this school. I was offered so many opportunities by traveling to other places in the state of Ohio and going to different states to visit Ivy League colleges. It helped in the best way possible by helping me get accepted into my college that I have loved the last four years.

How are you a game changer?
I would not necessarily say I am a game changer. But, I am making a positive impact on my community by helping with any activity that I can to help the environment or town. I was also featured in the Humans of Findlay story; this showed my life and how I have impacted my community.

What is the most amazing or interesting thing that’s happened to you since graduating?
Since graduating I have had many opportunities through the university. I was first a Pre-Veterinarian Medicine major, where I was able to receive hands-on experience. I eventually changed to Public Relations, where I was able to meet new people such as the Mayor of Findlay, and I was able to work in the Communication House on campus and meet an alumnus of the university and learn how he became successful after he graduated. I also got engaged to my fiancé, Sam, and we traveled to Canada with his family and coming up soon we will be traveling to Germany for three weeks to visit his family. We will be getting married on June 17, 2017.

Your favorite high school memory?
I have so many memories from high school. But, the ones that I absolutely love are the friends that I made and the teachers I was able to meet and have during school. I was able to play volleyball all four years of my high school career and the friends and memories that I made have lasted with me my entire life!

How do you support and participate in the Concept Alumni?
I am hoping that I will be able to help so much more in the future and help the alumni of my year and years after me to connect and be a family outside of school and graduation.
