Roberto Jasso

Roberto Jasso is an Alumnus of Chicago Math and Science Academy, Class of 2009.

Briefly, describe your career path.
After graduating Chicago Math and Science Academy in 2009, I went on to attend Illinois State University and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science/History. After graduating, the very next week I started working as a paraprofessional back at CMSA. The following school year, of 2014, I received a position at Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park as an 8th an 9th grade Social Studies and History teacher. I am currently there now.

How are you a game changer?
By working at a school in an urban setting, I am able to be a game changer that impacts the students I teach. I am invested in my students’ lives and I am there for support when they don’t have it anywhere else. I am currently a Concept Young Scholars Program mentor to ten boys and have the opportunity to guide them in the right direction, while introducing them to the real world and preparing them for the future.

Your favorite Concept Schools memory?
My favorite Concept Schools memory was when we participated in an overnight ACT camp at HSA Cleveland’s high school campus. I had the opportunity to meet students from Cleveland and bond with my friends from CMSA.

Where is your career headed?
In the very near future, I plan to begin a master’s program in Educational Administration. One day I hope to be an administrator at a Concept school. In the meantime, I am looking forward to serving in the Concept Alumni Network.

How has your Concept Schools experience helped shape your success?
Concept Schools has dedicated teachers that lead wonderful programs to shape children. For me, it was programs such as National Honor Society and student government that allowed me to grow as a leader and a well-rounded individual. I look back on those teachers and try to model my teaching philosophy around them. Another aspect Concept Schools offers that other schools don’t is that they kept in contact with me throughout college and offered constant support.

How do you support and participate in the Concept Alumni?
To support and participate in Concept Alumni I have hosted alumni networking events. These include the Thanksgiving Alumni Dinner and the CMSA Alumni Reunion. Also, I am currently the treasurer of the Concept Alumni Network Advisory Board Chicago.
