Future Institute
The real test of a high school education is how it plays out afterward. CAN graduates are successful, hardworking, and are making contributions in diverse fields. Here are just a few of the many paths taken by Concept Alumni.

Alumni Spotlight
(Week of January 16, 2017)

Ramsha Essa

Ramsha Essa is an alumna of Chicago Math and Science Academy (CMSA), Class of 2016. Currently, Ramsha is attending Loyola University Chicago.

Briefly describe your career path.
I am currently majoring in Software Engineering and Psychology at Loyola University. These are two very distinct fields but I believe I can combine the skills I get from these majors. I plan to be a software engineer but the skills I will get from my psychology major will definitely help me understand work dynamics and variety of perspectives of different individuals.

What are you passionate about in your work/school?
I am passionate about creating websites which allows me to help small businesses and organizations. At Loyola, I am part of an organization which teaches us about how technology can help people and how we can effectively use technology to help small businesses. In addition, I am also passionate about theatre, therefore, I am also part of a theatre club. Being part of this club gives me an opportunity to portray different emotions on screen and teach lessons to people through my plays.

Where is your career headed?
I am currently a freshmen in college so I do know that I have plenty of time. However, I still make sure that I am making best use of my time. I try to do new things and talk to people related to different fields. It helps me get better knowledge about different fields of study. However, I do know that I want to combine the skills I get from psychology and software engineering.  I know that many paths will open if I work hard.

How has your Concept Schools (CMSA) experience helped shape your success?
CMSA has played a huge role in my success. No matter what I say, it will not be enough to express my gratitude toward Concept Schools. The amount of help and attention I have received from CMSA has been tremendous which has helped me grow as an individual. When I was a freshman, I never thought that I will go to such a prestigious university. My teachers always found ways to encourage and motivate me to excel in school. The best thing about CMSA is how everyone is like a family and I surely miss being part of the family.

How are you a game changer? Or, how are you making a positive impact in the world?
I am a really optimistic person and try to spread positivity around. I don't give up easily and try my best to complete whatever I start. My first step is to create a game and I feel that game will allow me to help people. Games are non-threatening and entertaining, therefore, they can be used to convey a crucial message in society.

Your favorite Concept Schools (CMSA) memory?
There are so many good memories but the best one was walking around the hallways while talking to teachers and friends. There was always something to do or ways to get help on homework.

What is your advice for current Concept Students?
My advice is that do not let that one grade or score define you. Life is beyond that! I know students are often told how important ACT scores or AP classes are which is true. However, if you don't get your desired score, it won't be the end of the world. Colleges want to see a well-rounded student so it is important to maintain the grades and engage in extracurricular activities. In addition, they want to see determination and confidence.
